I was sent a review copy of Clean Plates NYC, a new guide to healthy eating in NYC. It was co-authored by nutrition coach Jared Koch and food critic Alex Van Buren. Together, they traversed Manhattan in search of healthy and tasty restaurants.
What I like about this guide is that it’s designed for everyone: vegetarians, vegans, carnivores, raw foodists, locavores, slow foodists… everyone. Each restaurant included had to be approved by both the nutrition expert and the food critic, so you’re guaranteed a healthful, tasty meal. The reviews are beautifully written and include must-have dishes at each spot.
While I take issue with the inclusion of a few restaurants (a fried chicken joint? really?) , the majority of them are spot on. They included some of my favorites — Souen, Lupa, Hangawi, and Blue Hill. Plus, the book itself is sized perfectly so you can take it with you as you explore the city.
