The Expense of Living Gluten-Free

The New York Times ran a great article today about the costs of buying gluten-free foods such as breads, pastas, cakes.  Did you know that in the UK and in Italy, the government helps defray these costs? Though we’re not up to speed here, I learned in the article that people with celiac’s disease can either deduct the difference between the gluten and gluten-free versions (e.g., regular bread is $3.99 and gluten-free bread is $6.99) on your taxes!  They also recommend that people check with their employer-provided flexible spending plan to see if you can use that fund to defray the differential.
